Chapter 120
120 An Unexpected Answer
After saying his last piece, Blake shut both his eyes and mouth, putting all his focus on his ears as he waited for what kind of words would come out of Vera’s mouth.
Blake really didn’t have a single clue what Vera would say to him after he said all those words earlier nor did he know whether Vera would now deem him as someone annoying and untrustworthy.
Blake was afraid, he was very afraid of what would happen.
Her reactions and what she would think of him after he said those words were outside his power to control and he could only wait in silence as the seconds went by and yet there were still no answers coming out of Vera’s mouth yet.
But Blake certainly didn’t expect that the first thing that he felt wasn’t Vera’s words entering his ears yet a soft and delicate touch on his cheeks.
“You were very worried about me, weren’t you?”
Very gently supporting his head to look upward with her small and delicate yet strong hands, Vera made Blake’s eyes look straight into hers.
Blake didn’t dare to look at Vera earlier when he was pouring his heart out, but now that she became the support that held his head up, Blake finally got the courage to answer,
“Yes...” While looking right into Vera’s unblinking eyes.
.....
Despite his worry and fear about Vera’s reactions, Blake couldn’t help but notice the beautifulness of the eyes that he was currently staring at.
The two of them were only about an arm’s length apart and Blake reflexively stared unmoving when Vera’s face was very close to him while also feeling her soft and warm hands supporting him.
Seeing that Blake had answered her question with conviction both in his eyes and words, Vera’s thoughtful expression turned to a smile as she felt the sincere care and worry Blake had for her, something that was very rare and unlikely to happen in the demon realm.
She then moved her fingers slowly from Blake’s cheeks up to his hair before stopping at the back of his head.
Vera took a step forward, making the distance between her and Blake even closer before putting her other hand on his cheeks again.
With her right hand holding his cheek and her left hand slowly moving up and down and rubbing the back of Blake’s head, she finally spoke again.
“I am very sorry that I made you worry about me.” Vera kept her left hand rubbing the back of Blake’s head.
“I tried to not bother you too much about my problems and only told you what you have to know since I don’t want you to have a useless burden added to you.”
“The same as you, I really want you to grow stronger as fast as possible. And adding unnecessary burdens to you will do nothing good other than possibly slowing down your growth.”
Hearing those words come out of Vera’s mouth, Blake wanted to quickly cut her off and told her that it wouldn’t be a burden for him at all if she decided to share her worries with him.
In fact, he would have felt more at peace knowing that she didn’t have to carry all of her burdens all by herself.
Knowing what it felt like to be the someone that didn’t have others whom he could share his fears, worries, and frustration with, Blake didn’t want the person that had practically saved his life, took him in, taught him how to survive, how to get stronger, and also the person he cared about, to feel what he felt.
But before Blake could even open his mouth fully, Vera moved her right hand from Blake’s cheek to his shoulder while saying,
“But now I know that what I did to help you instead made you have that burden instead, I won’t leave you in complete darkness to what was happening again next time.”
She then moved her left hand to his other shoulder and held his two shoulders with both of her hands.
“Even though I still can’t tell you everything about my problems as it would really only give you unnecessary thoughts about the deeper realms, I can promise you that I will at least tell you what we are dealing with if situations where I need to act a little bit more cautious ever come up again.”
While Vera was saying all of this, Blake only kept his mouth shut, but his eyes and ears were wide open, looking at Vera’s expression and hearing everything that she had to say.
And when he heard her promise, Blake quickly nodded his head softly and said,
“Thank you.”
Vera replied to Blake’s nod with a nod of her own before patting his back and saying,
“Now let’s go to the shore where you first met those humanoid demons. I want to make sure of something first before deciding anything.” She said while extending her hand and spreading her wings, offering for her to carry him again.
Blake then hesitated for a full second about whether he would get on his best friend’s back again to travel to the shore or whether he should take up his teacher’s offer and fall under the comfort of the softness and warmth of his teacher’s body.
But he quickly shook his head and chose Robus’ back instead since he was too embarrassed to be so close to Vera and act normal as if nothing had happened after the exchange of words he just had with her.
On their way, Robus started talking to Blake.
“Rr, rrr...”
“Yes, Robus. She insanely strong indeed.”
“And yes, I also think that we won’t be able to defeat her even if we work together.”
The two of them then simultaneously looked at the flying humanoid demon above the trees. Both of them had a deep sense of respect and amazement for the humanoid demon, especially after what they saw earlier, seeing the fire tornado blender with their own two eyes.
However, one of them not only had respect and amazement in their hearts, but also a warm and comforting feeling every time he took a look at her.
‘I really want to know much more about her...’ he thought as he kept his gaze lingering for 5 more seconds before his eyes went back to the trees in front of him as they continued their journey.
With Blake and Robus leading the way, the three started their journey towards the edge of the island where there were 5 boats, boats that were used by the humanoid demons still stuck in the shallow waters.
